Our Doctors


Dr John Pickard
is a well rounded physician. He is a Hospital Practitioner in Radiotherapy and Oncology, Chairman of Plymouth Sub-Committee of the Local Medical Committee and an Academic Tutor for the Peninsula Medical School. His special interests include oncology, preventative medicine, contraception and sports medicine.
He regularly spends his weekends on the touchline support his sons playing rugby or at netball/hockey/athletics supporting his daughter.

Qualifications: MA MB Bchir Cambridge 1978 MRCGP DMRT
 


Dr Paul Hardy
settled in Plymouth after 15 years in the Royal Navy with tours in the Caribbean, South Atlantic and North Sea. He has worked in Australia, New Zealand and British Columbia. He has offered medical support to motor safaris in Australia, trekking in the Himalaya and sailing in the Canary Islands.
His medical special interests are minor surgery and occupational health.
Paul sails and races regularly in Plymouth Sound and his next adventure is to race across the Pacific Ocean in a 30 metre yacht.

Qualificiations: MB ChB Manchester 1980 MRCGP DRCOG DFFP Dip Occ Med
 

Dr Rachel Leyland moved to Devon in 1999 after working in the Midlands and teaching medicine in the Caribbean. Her interests include cardiovascular, child health, and general medical problems.
She also runs and cycles, and tries to keep up with her two children.

Qualifications: MA MB Bchir Cambridge 1990 MRCP MRCGP DFFP DRCOG
 

 

Dr Samantha (Sam) Wheeler joined the Practice in 2003 and originally trained in Nottingham. She is interested in general medical and respiratory problems.
She spends her spare time on the beach and moors with her brood of children.

Qualifications: B Med Sci 1994 BMBS MRCP DRCOG DFFP

Dr Steve Ward-Booth trained in Leicester and became a Partner in April 2010. He is interested in most aspects of general practice but has additional specialist experience in gastroenterology.
He likes music and plays guitar with more enthusiasm than talent. He enjoys playing football and runs regularly, including road-races – sometimes enjoying it.

Qualifications: MB ChB Leicester 1997, DFFP, MRCGP

Dr Gaye Dickinson
is the latest partner to join the Surgery, having been a GP in the North East for a number of years.  She has a lot of experience in women's health and contraception, she fits coils and contraceptive implants.
Her outside interests including walking, tennis, piano and clarinet.

Qualifications: MBBS Newcastle 1984, MRCGP, DRCOG, DFFP (LOC IUT LOCIMPLANT) 
 

 
Dr Kelly Dinniss
is a salaried, term-time doctor. She is interested in all aspects of general practice but has a special interest in womens health, paediatrics and family planning. She fits contraceptive coils and also enjoys minor surgery.
She has 2 young children who keep her busy outside of work
