Out Of HoursMany minor medical problems occurring after the surgeries have closed may be safely left until the next day, particularly with a little appropriate advice.
NHS Direct may be able to help online, you may speak to a nurse on 0845 4647 for the price of a local call. If you need to speak to a doctor call Devon Docs on 0845 671 0270. Your call will be recorded. If the doctor is unable to resolve your problem you may be asked to attend an emergency surgery. In the event of a genuine emergency the nearest Accident and Emergency department is at Derriford Hospital on 0845 155 8155 or if the problem is life-threatening please dial 999. Dental Problems If you are registered with a dentist please phone them first as they should provide an out of hours service. Otherwise, call the Emergency Dental Service on 0845 155 8070. Meningitis Parents of young children and students are urged to become familiar with the symptoms and signs of meningitis. Do not wait until you or your children are ill to get the facts. Visit The Meningitis Trust for more details. Contraception Most problems can be dealt with during surgery hours or try the Family Planning Association. If you need emergency contraception (the morning after pill) phone either surgery after 0800 hours in the morning, Monday to Friday and ask to see a doctor or nurse practitioner that morning. Emergency contraception (Levonelle?) is also available over the counter from selected pharmacies such as larger branches of Boots. |
